Ever read science fiction and find yourself bored by how there seems to be way too much fiction and not enough science? Too much time spent talking about the fact that the main character is “tragically flawed,” but next to nothing about the details behind the story? What about the physics behind the ship’s performance, for example — her weapons, her engines? These are the topics physicists sometimes refer to as “vroom, boom, and zoom,” and, in my opinion, that’s what science fiction should be all about. I always aspire to write that kind of science fiction — fast-moving, science-based stories that are still character-driven. And I hope you’ll agree that the Terran Fleet Command saga is that kind of story.

As a former U.S. Air Force officer and private pilot, I try to bring that same discipline to the page. I grew up devouring the grand naval adventures of Patrick O’Brian and the crisp, technothriller precision of Tom Clancy. So my goal from the outset was for the Terran Fleet Command stories to merge those two influences — carrying naval adventure and tactical realism to the stars.

If you like stories about courage, camaraderie, and the quiet humor that gets people through impossible situations, those are the qualities I try to bring to every page. I hope you’ll enjoy the stories.
